Not even two hours driving from the metropolitan area of Munich you feel transported into another time. Well, at least in fall and winter. In the summer - normally - it becomes a highly frequented sight, the number one sightseeing attraction in Bavaria. But still. „I want to remain a mystery to myself and everybody else“: Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig II had it built as his personal hideaway. The castle on a high rock at the foothills of the Bavarian Alps in not easy to reach. To get all the way up there it even takes a little bit of hiking.
